Maths Drop in Poster 2017

Mathematics equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information, simplify and solve problems, assess risk and make informed decisions.

Students are encouraged to practice and consolidate skills at home by revising notes and using websites. Formal homework is given regularly to review class work and prepare for written assessments.

S1 Curriculum for Excellence

In S1 students get Mathematics for 4 periods a week. During the year most students will cover the Third Level experiences and outcomes for the following contexts: Number, Money and Measurement, Shape, Position and Movement and Information Handling.

S2 Curriculum for Excellence

In S2 students get Mathematics for 4 periods a week. During the year most students will cover the Third Level experiences and outcomes for the following contexts: Number, Money and Measurement, Shape Position and Movement and Information Handling.

Some students will extend to level 4.

S3 Curriculum for Excellence

In S3 students get Mathematics for 4 periods a week. During the year most students will cover the Third or Fourth Level experiences and outcomes for the following contexts: Number, Money and Measurement, Shape Position and Movement and Information Handling.

S4 National Qualifications

In S4 students get Mathematics for 4 periods a week. Students will continue to study Mathematics with a view to being presented at National 3, National 4 or National 5 depending on their progress in S3.

National 3 Mathematics with units on Manage Money and data, Shape, Space and Measure, and Numeracy.

National 4 Applications of Mathematics with units on Finances and Statistics, Geometry and Measure, and Numeracy.

National 4 Mathematics with units on Expressions and Formulae, Relationships and Numeracy.

National 5 with units on Expressions and Formulae, Relationships and Applications.

S5/6 (6 Periods Per Week)

  • National 5 Mathematics
  • National 5 Applications of Mathematics
  • Higher Mathematics

S6 (6 Periods Per Week)

  • Advanced Higher Mathematics

Out with the classroom we offer our pupils many experiences. They include:

  • P7 Enterprising Maths Competition: Every year we invite all P7 pupils from our feeder primaries to compete in a morning of maths activities.
  • UK Junior, Intermediate and Senior Maths Challenge Competition: Pupils from S1-S6 compete in a national maths competition.
  • After school revision classes.
