On 10 November, four of our students attended a conference at Gleneagles to share their experiences of China, its language and its culture. Alison Snell, Neil Taylor, Jessica Reynolds and Susie Bradley were recent participants in a trip to China along with five more students from Craigmount High School and eleven from Leith Academy. Both schools once again united at the conference to deliver a colourful, interesting and inspirational presentation to an audience made up of hundreds of delegates from different sectors.
During their presentation, our students shared facts and photos about their outings and visits in China and emphasised the excellent opportunities the trip has provided in building educational links with Edinburgh’s link school, Tianjin Number One High School, for the future. Whilst in China, the group spent a day in the school in classes, exchanging information and gifts with the Chinese students.
The conference was called “Our Dream” and students, teachers, business leaders and politicians from across Scotland and China gave thought provoking presentations about their vision for Chinese teaching and learning. Introductory speeches were given by Mike Russell and Chinese Consul General Mr Pan Xinchun.
We were treated to pipe bands and a beautiful three course lunch served to us in the elegant Gleneagles restaurant.
All agreed it was a fantastic day and our four students, along with their peers from Leith Academy represented the school and Edinburgh in a first-class manner. They really did us proud!
