S4 – S6 Formal Assessments 2020

The SQA have released further guidance on the Awards process for 2020-21 and as a result we have made a slight change to our assessment plans for this session. Our plans for Higher and Advanced Higher remain unchanged in that learners will sit Formal Assessments (formerly prelims) in December and the final SQA exam in May with small in-class assessments and pieces of work in between to provide feedback and identify next steps in learning.

There have been some changes to the length of the final exams this year given the disruption of COVID 19, this will be reflected in the timings of our Formal Assessments where possible to give learners an experience as close to the final exam as possible.

The SQA timetable has now been published and can be found here: https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/41619.html

Our Formal Assessment timetable for Higher and Advanced Higher will be published next Friday, 13th November on the school website with a link provided in next week’s update.

We have decided to hold our Formal Assessments for National 5 in January instead of December as previously planned. Formal Assessments for National 5 will now take place between Monday 11th and Friday 22nd January 2021. The timetable for this will be published by Friday 27th November.

We will also be holding a second Formal Assessment for National 5 in April/May for most subjects. Final dates for these will be confirmed in the new year once we have received all the information we require from the SQA. These changes (two Formal Assessments: one in January and one in April/May) aim to support learners and staff in collating quality evidence; reflective of our learners’ ability at National 5 level. Final estimate grades for National 5 will be submitted to the SQA at the end of May 2021.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We have been given clear guidance about the gentle re-introduction of extracurricular activities at school. Please note that our programme will be minimal compared to previous years due to the restrictive nature of this guidance.

Face Coverings
In line with Tier 3 instructions all senior phase learners (and staff) should wear face coverings during lessons as well as moving around the school. Please read this letter from our Chief Education Officer asking for your support in this matter.

Transition
This week Mrs Coull held a virtual TEAMS call with all nine P7 classes within the Craigmount Cluster, all had the opportunity to ask questions and the format for transition was shared for this session. This follows on from positive feedback from our current S1 students who after completing their first term at Craigmount are feeling very much a part of the school.

As per our reporting calendar, all parents/carers of S1 learners will receive their school report this week. We hope it makes for enjoyable reading!
