I hope you are well. Thanks to those of you who have already completed the two-question survey shared in a link by Mrs Coull on the DHT update on Wednesday. Your feedback is really valued and helpful to us with the on-going development of wellbeing strategies and online learning. House teams have also been seeking the views of a number of students on the online experience this week, and a survey is being put out to students next week. We are also planning some online Student Parliament meetings soon. As well as seeking student views on online learning, we will also be engaging them on to get their views on the “blended learning” approach referred to in the government announcements yesterday. I will also be seeking parental engagement on this once I have more information on the local approach to the school openings from City of Edinburgh. One immediate priority in discussions about the strategy paper by the senior team this morning was how we can support some cluster transition visits in late June.
Our staff will be supporting the St Augustine’s HUB next week. The numbers of students attending has steadily grown and I want to thank our staff for supporting with this in what is a very new experience for them. Staff will also be able to access our school on a limited basis over the next two weeks which will help us with plans to obtain and find ways of distributing jotters, one-to-one devices and other materials.
I also want to share the update below from Mrs Thompson on work in drama which illustrates the process that various subjects are going though to adapt to the online challenges. Drama is a subject which relies heavily on close interaction in school so it is encouraging that students are engaging with plans to overcome any barriers online.
“We have had a high level of engagement in the online Higher Drama class this week. The students were really positive about having the chance to participate. We used the new feature in Teams to enable group work. This is an area we are looking to develop in future weeks. The AH Drama students have also participated in online check-ins over the last two weeks. As a department that relies on teamwork, we are exploring the most effective ways of doing this remotely. “
