I want to thank-you for your support and understanding as you complete another week of remote learning. Thank-you for the positive comments in how remote learning is progressing. That said, we appreciate how difficult this time is, have listened to all feedback given, and actioned accordingly. Please find an update on a number of different aspects of Craigmount:
The wonderful Mrs Hendrie (ICT co-ordinator and Curricular Leader of Business Education and Computing) has produced a troubleshooting form to assist with common frustrations in using Office 365. Please access the form here and complete the steps given to solve your query or to inform us of the issue.
Here is just some of the great work from our talented young people…
Mrs Maxey has been very impressed with the excellent engagement demonstrated by the S5/6 N5 Applications of Maths class this week. Students have taken part in live calls starting at 9am, and completed work set to an excellent standard. Please keep up the outstanding efforts – I am thrilled with your progress.
S1 Scientists have just finished a 2-week block on the ‘Excellence in Science’ Award. Here are some fantastic examples of some of the submissions:
S3 UK Maths Challenge
Students in S3 are taking part in the Uk maths challenge next week. This is a great national event that we have taken part in for several years. Students have the details on their Maths Class Teams. Here is a link for more information: https://www.ukmt.org.uk/competitions/solo/intermediate-mathematical-challengeonline
Authority Guidance to SQA Qualifications
The authority has produced a guide to answer the commonly asked questions regarding the Senior Phase qualifications. The guide can be found on our website here. It is worth noting that we are aligned with this advice and are preparing for the different scenarios that we could face.
Flexibility in Remote Learning
We have listened to feedback and seek to motivate and engage with learners through regular contact from staff. Even so, please note that everyone will have individual circumstances and should access remote learning as is suitable for you and your family. Flexibility is a core principle to our provision of remote learning.
We welcome feedback in all aspects of school as we seek to improve our provision. We appreciate all the parents who have contacted the school and ask that if you have any feedback to give then please contact us. I am sure you understand how hard the staff are working to support you and your learner in remote learning, while dealing with their own individual circumstances.
Higher & Advanced Higher Reports
We have issued reports today for students in S5 and S6 sitting Higher and Advanced Highers. These reports will give progress to date, including information on the December formal assessments. We will send a tracking report to all S4-6 parents and carers in March 2021. Our revised schedule can be found here.

Upcoming parent consultations for S4 on the 2nd February and S5 on the 17th February should help young people in planning their next stage of learning. Our Careers Adviser, Cat Burns is also still available to offer help and advice to pupils and parents remotely. Please contact your young person’s Pupil Support Leader if you would like to speak to Cat about career pathways and options. The closing date for entering course choices for S5/6 is Friday 26th February 2021
Free resources for Children’s Mental Health Week 2021
From 1st – 7 th February 2021, we’re taking part in Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is Express Yourself. Place2Be has created activities and resources to help children (and adults) to explore the different ways that they can share their thoughts, feelings and ideas.
There are lots of resources on the Children’s Mental Health Week website that you can use with your child at home; including activity ideas, tips for parents and carers, and an online assembly which will be available from Monday 1 February. These have been slightly adapted by our Pupil Support Leaders to be delivered through the PSE curriculum, where we will also promote an exciting drama project led by the Corstorphine Community Hub.
Our staff will also be engaging in creative activities to support their wellbeing as a part of Wellbeing Wednesday. Visit www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk to find out more, or email your child’s Pupil Support Leader.
Wellbeing and Support
We are aware of the effects of lockdown and remote learning on our young people and are keen to support in any way we can. All learners have received a link to a short survey through their school email. Pupil Support Leaders have also posted this on House Teams. We appreciate your support in having your child complete this. PSE for the next fortnight will focus on positive wellbeing activities and Pupil Support Leaders will address any concerns raised from the survey.
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe!
