Sutton Trust Summer School 30 June to 5 July 2019.

Only 1 month left to make an application!

The Sutton Trust Summer School at the University of St Andrews is held each year in order to give pupils in S5 the chance to experience a week in the life of a university student. It has been proved that this experience, aimed at pupils who fulfil most of the criteria set out in the information material, is of great benefit when applying to competitive universities.

The residential week includes study within academic areas of interest, social activities and advice on UCAS related topics. The week is free of charge and pupils are only required to bring spending money for their personal use.

Applications are now open and I would encourage your pupils to apply early. Further information can be found online at and

Applications close on 28 February 2019.

If you have any questions about the Sutton Trust Summer School or any of our other Outreach programmes then please do not hesitate to contact us by email or by calling 01334 462346.

The S6 Ambassadors have been working with Mrs Bryce to reduce waste in Craigmount, focussing on making a deal with Amey to stop using plastic cutlery in our cafeteria. For your interest, please see Adrienne’s recent letter to Amey below:

“To Whom It May Concern,

We have tried various times to discuss with Amey the topic of reducing plastic waste in the cafeteria at Craigmount High School. The use of plastic for packaging, cutlery etc. is sadly excessive and contributes greatly to land and marine pollution, as unnecessarily large amounts are thrown away every day in our school alone. Craigmount prides itself on being an eco-friendly school, with a focus on recycling, and this use of plastic undermines the example trying to be set for the students. We are very passionate about reducing our use of plastic as it will encourage the pupils to be more environmentally aware and shows others that Craigmount is doing its best to minimise waste and limit our contribution to climate change.

The S6 House Ambassadors are focussing on this as we believe it is a big problem which needs to be fixed immediately. We are launching an eco-campaign encouraging the school to actively help the environment and as part of this campaign we are determined to reduce single us plastic waste. It is crucial that we demonstrate that change is possible as others will follow in our footsteps to do their part too. We understand that it is not a simple request however the benefits are endless as it will enhance your public image as well as having a genuinely positive impact on the environment.

We sincerely hope you consider this request and do your part to reduce waste as this is greatly important to us.

Yours Faithfully,

Adrienne Humphreys,

S6 House Ambassador”
