Last week ended with the wonderful Craigmount Debating Day, and this week I was informed that both our senior and junior teams had made the Donald Dewar Debating Prize final. This will take place at the Scottish Parliament later this month.
Success was also achieved by our talented S1-3 dancers this week. Please see the comment below from Mr Russell, our Active Schools co-ordinator:
“Craigmount had a very successful night at the Edinburgh Schools Dance Show on Wednesday evening. Led by our dedicated dance teacher (and former pupil) Jennifer Dailly, the group took first place in the level 1 group competition. In addition, C McNulty (S3) took the trophy for best junior choreography performance and she also took 2nd place in the individual choreography section. Well done to all the dancers, they have worked very hard for this competition and they have been rewarded on the night. A special thanks to Jennifer for leading the dance programme at the school. She has worked brilliantly with the group across the year, and spent a large part of the last two weeks sewing costumes for the performance!”
This week we also welcomed back our S5-6 students and outlined key expectations and leadership opportunities in the morning induction events. Mr Irving has also posted details of an information evening event next Thursday for S4 parents/carers. The purpose of this is to outline and explain the way the National Courses are organised, and the assessment expectations. This was well received by parents last session.
On Tuesday this week we also hosted a City of Edinburgh event for the North West locality on Creativity and Employability skills. This was very interesting, and those who attended will have a clearer grasp of the current key skills employers are seeking. I have asked for the presentation slides form the team and will make them available on the parent section of the website next week. Interestingly, on going round classes in the past couple of days, I noticed that we are already covering a lot of the creative aspects highlighted. For example, in the Progressive Minds elective on Musical Theatre, and in a lesson prepared for P7 students in geography.
Finally, our former S6 returned to school today to collect the 2017 Yearbook and prom tickets. It was good chatting to them again. I am looking forward to attending this event tonight, and meeting many of you there.
