Dear Parents/ Carers

I have very little to add that is new from yesterday’s post, but feel it is important that you receive daily communication from me given the circumstances we find ourselves in.

Tomorrow all staff will be at Tynecastle for the in-service day. I will be thanking them for their fantastic efforts since Easter, and allowing maximum time for the Faculty teams to re-group and plan materials for the month ahead. That way we will continue to improve our provision across the sites. I also had meetings outside of school today aimed at planning some improved provision for our S2 students through gaining access to the new Gillespie’s campus. Senior staff are working on this.

I would also like to compliment our S6 students for the very friendly and dignified way they ended their school career last Friday. Our staff are really proud of the way they coped with being in another school on such an important day to them. Their conduct was impeccable.

Finally, I want to offer best wishes to all students who will be sitting English exams tomorrow. Senior staff will be available to welcome them and support with any questions.

Faculty and whole school posts

Debating news –  Mr McPake

On Saturday we competed in the Auld Hoose S1-S3 competition in Aberdeen. Our teams finished 7th, 8th and 12th respectively (out of 32 teams). We were the top ranked state school. D. Joffe and C. Cranston attended as judges.

K Bodasing and I Spowart narrowly lost out on the Procurator Fiscal final to James Gillespie’s. Given that the Gillespie’s team were in S3 (and had a lot more time with their coach) we are treating this as a moral victory! The students and parents enjoyed the event and that is what matters.

Guitar Construction –  Mr Kimber

Students involved in this activity are being issued with information and a return needs to be made on Monday specifying the type of guitar and colours that are wanted so that equipment can be ordered. We are happy to email this information out if this would be more convenient – just let the school office know.

Returns can be handed into school staff but emailing or phoning into the school office at Tynecastle would be preferred.
