What a fantastic day it has been at Craigmount. There’s been so much going on and our many visitors today have commented on the great atmosphere around the school. When I finish this update I will be going to watch the finals of Craigmount Debating Day, which has seen us host schools from all over the country from the state and private sector. This really is a major event on the debating calendar and it happens thanks to the incredible leadership of Mr McPake in the English Department. One of the great pleasures is seeing how many former Craigmount students return to support the event, which is also mainly delivered by a team of current students.
Today we also welcomed more P7 transition visits and I really enjoyed speaking with East Craig students. They really enjoyed the visit and I was able to talk to them about some aspects of the three day visit.
Meanwhile, our May Programme students were celebrating what they had achieved over the past month during exam leave. Ms McGhie and the team of staff supporting have done a great job and this initiative continues to evolve. The activities the students have participated in will set them up well for starting S5 on Monday when Mr Irving and I will jointly run an S5 induction event in the morning. Mr Irving has already put out details of the event. On Tuesday we will run a similar event for S6 when they return, and also deliver the annual Leadership Fayre, when S6 sign up for a wide range of leadership and volunteering duties.
This week was also the final week of SQA exams with exams in German, Lifeskills Mathematics, Administration & IT, PE, Mandarin, Psychology and Art & Design taking place. These once again went well.
At the Parent Council AGM on Monday, among other things, I was able to answer some questions on Parent Pay, which went live on 1st June. Please contact our Business Manager, Mrs Bryce if you have any questions. We will make sure these are answered, and that the City of Edinburgh Question and Answer paper is updated to include any new questions.
I also want to acknowledge and thank the staff team for once again supporting and delivering a successful Duke of Edinburgh expedition last weekend.
Finally, I am pleased to share with you some of the fantastic work the Modern Languages department has been involved in. The team has really embraced the new iPad technology and have been transferring a wide range of resources and activities on to Onenote. Please see the statement below from our Acting Curriculum Leader, Ms Cunningham. The new S1 from August onwards will also be able to study both French and German. This curricular change has only been possible with the hard work and commitment of our fantastic Modern Languages team.
The Modern Languages Faculty introduces: Onenote
With a view to using digital literacy in order to enhance the experience of learning Modern Languages at Craigmount, every student will have access to their French, German and Spanish online folder by August of this year.
In their folder they will find class notes, homework, videos, mp3s and much more. As a parent you will be able to follow the progress of your child and listen to their newly acquired language skills.” C Cunningham
I am now going back to the library to see the final debate!
Have a good weekend.
