The week started with some great news on debating again. On Saturday, F Simonnet-Lefevre and K Bodasing won the University of Manchester Debating Competition. In the final, they defeated teams from Leeds, Newcastle and Cardiff – the Cardiff team containing two members of the Welsh national debating team. It is the fourth tournament that the boys have won this season. The victory sets the boys up well for their trip to the University of Cambridge finals in March.
On Monday, A Potluru qualified for the University of Oxford finals. She has also had an extremely impressive season, winning West Coast Worlds, finishing as the 2nd ranked debater of 48 at the University of St Andrews tournament and making the Scotland development squad.
We also had the Maths Challenge this week with 30 S3 students taking part in the event.
Meanwhile, both PE and Food Consumer Technology have been doing practical assessments this week, which have gone well thanks to the smooth organisation by the faculties, and the support of colleagues with covering classes while the assessments were taking place. After the February break we will be raising the profile of our supported study programme and emailing you about this. The idea is to have a really focused six week lead-up to the Easter break with faculties offer supported study sessions.
Yesterday C Scott and A Jenkins-Garcia represented Craigmount at a National Conference for senior students. I have received the following report from them:
“We had a very interesting day talking to other students from across Scotland. The conversations were focused around leadership and the empowerment of young people and also touched on important topics such as: mental health, LGBT inclusivity, student voice and career pathways. We took a lot from the conference and brought back a few ideas to implement into Craigmount life.”
At break today G Hutchison, R Archibald, E Maxwell, and A Masting organised a bake sale as part of their Leadership MPA class. Custom was brisk and they raised £130 for Cancer Research UK. Well done to the team.
Term starts for all on Monday 17th February.
Have a good February break.
