The highlight this week has to be the excellent effort of our debating team in Durham at the weekend. This included success against Eton College, and our team has been featured today on Radio Scotland, and also in yesterday’s Evening News. Debating is a popular and inclusive club at Craigmount, and Mr McPake has done a fantastic job in promoting and supporting this key skill.
I also want to mention the excellent music event for parents and carers of those involved in the recent practical exams, and also those who take part in performance groups. This “Spring Fling” was most enjoyable. Thanks to all staff who made this possible, and in particular Ms MacLeod, who led on this event.
Today we also held our celebration event for S6. This was jointly planned with the senior team and the S6 organising group and the morning was enjoyed by all. The students had prepared a set of staff award certificates, and shared some key memories of their time in the school. The S6 Yearbook and sweatshirts were also issued. Some of the movie theme costumes were also most impressive and my favourites included Jack and Victor from Still Game ( though I am not sure that these old lads are actually movie characters!). The morning ended with some potted sports run by Mr Pye, Mr Raeburn and Mr Beattie.
Over the holidays, the Easter revision sessions will take place. All the details of this have been shared. I am very grateful that so many staff are willing to support this programme during their holiday period. During the holidays we also have several science students going to Aberdeen with Mr Gullen to take part in the Underwater Robotics competition.
On the staffing front, this week we said farewell to Mrs Frew who starts her maternity leave. Ms Thomas will be taking over this Pupil Support Role in an acting capacity. Mrs Urquhart (DHT) also returned from maternity leave on Wednesday and will be with us next term. I am also pleased to say Mr Raeburn will also be continuing as Acting DHT with us next term.
Have a good Easter break.
