This week we hosted 20 teachers, mostly from China. They are training to become teachers of English and visited the school in order to gain direct experience of Scottish classrooms. We were able to offer them a very rich experience over two days as so many staff were willing to open classrooms to the visitors in a programme organised by Ms Cunningham (Acting CL Modern Languages). I am very grateful to the staff for their willingness to do this. As with the P7 parent open afternoon last week it shows what a transparent and welcoming school Craigmount is. The S6 guides from Modern Languages also played a part and led tours around the school, answering any questions with enthusiasm and confidence.
I also enjoyed the STEM assemblies led by Ms Hickinson and students this week. These raised awareness of career opportunities in these industries and a range of activities were on offer across the school last week.
The first parent evening of the session (S5-6) takes place this Wednesday. Mr Pye is co-ordinating the event and has been texting and providing details on the school website. The new online booking system is in operation and as I write we have around 70% of appointments made already. As with any new system there will be glitches. Please bring these to our attention and we will find a solution. At the event, a number of our students will be promoting school competitions and events ( e.g. CANSAT, Honduras Trip, Fair Trade). The students have asked me to include this in the briefing. If you have time, please take a look at the stalls. There will be a specially designed CANSAT key-ring on offer for example. Our excellent Parent Council, as always will have a presence at the evening. I am very grateful to them for their commitment.
Mr Pye is also leading on the drive to gain the Rights Respecting School award and wants me to thank parents who have already been in touch following his request for support via the parent Facebook page last month. Below are details of his post:
“We are looking to-
- Create a new Vision & Values statement
- Create a new logo with associated stationery
- Improve the look of the school with messages, quotes, inspirational images etc.
- And lots more!
Any contacts or help in this area would be appreciated. Please direct them to me by email – email@example.com
Finally, Ms Crosbie has asked me to share this information about the 2017 Trenches Trip:
“All S3 History students have been issued with letters for parents/carers providing details of the History department’s Trenches Trip in September 2017. Those students who wish to go should complete the reply slip and return to Mrs Crosbie by Thursday 17th November. Parents/Carers should not hesitate to contact Mrs Crosbie with any queries regarding the trip.”
