I was very pleased to hear that our trip to the Battlefields was particularly special this year. Once again, the student engagement was exemplary, with lots of involvement such as the wreath-laying ceremony at the Menin Gate. A number of students also located war graves of relatives, which always makes for a poignant experience. The fact that the trip was on the centenary of the end of the war also added to the special qualities of this trip. Thanks to Mrs Crosbie, Mrs Dobson, Mr Clarke and Mr Beattie for supporting the trip. Mr Clarke’s evocative Last Post playing also added to this memorable week.
Last week S2 classes in Business Education also took part in an Enterprise and Employability event which set challenges which required team-working, creativity and problem-solving. Thanks to Mrs Hendrie and the team for organising this event with partners. Next week Craigmount students will also take part in an Enterprising Maths event led by Mrs Batten.
Of course, the big trip next week will involve most of our S1 talking part in S1 Venture at Benmore. We are all looking forward to this and have great support from S1 Tutor Group staff and Pupil Support. As well as the activities themselves, other sessions with the students will be used to reflect on school values, Health and Wellbeing, and to promote equity awareness.
Assemblies this week involved S1-3 and the core item across year-groups was a presentation by S6 Ambassadors where they introduced themselves, and what they hope to achieve this year.
Today we also said farewell to Mr Higgins who is leaving to take up a promoted post. Mr Higgins has contributed a great deal to the school and is a fantastic English teacher who will be missed by all. We wish him well.
Have a good weekend.
