Trust, Purpose, Aspiration, Awareness, Drive

Dear Parents/Carers

There is a lot going on across the school this afternoon with students engaged in dance, the Like Flying project in drama, and of course with the Craigmount Debating Day Competition. As I write around 100 students from schools across the country are competing in the library. We also have the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition out today and yesterday and I have just heard from staff that this is going well, and the weather proving kind to them.

Earlier this week Craigmount students also participated in a youth enterprise event. Mrs Scott has shared some details in the report below. I am very grateful to her for leading on this.

S3 Festival of Youth Enterprise 2019 – Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs Today – hosted by RBS, Gogarburn

On Thursday 23 May, a group of 27 new S3 Business students attended a conference organised by Young Enterprise Scotland, an event designed to encourage entrepreneurship in young people. Students heard first hand from young entrepreneurs including a blogger, a DJ and an 18 year old who set up their own business after patenting the solution to the problem of moisture control whilst playing his bagpipes! They took part in workshops to develop their employability skills including developing a marketing campaign for Scotland’s National Drink ( made from girders) , creating a logo for their own product and learning about a social enterprise. The students were able to speak to a variety of higher and further education institutions and employers in the market place to find out further information about career opportunities. One of our lucky students won a box of 36 Tunnock Teacakes in the prize draw. Feedback from the students was very positive, developing a “can do” attitude that anyone who comes up with an idea can start a business at any age. I look forward to hearing about their business successes in the future!

Have a good weekend.
