Dear Parents/Carers

I have just heard that our S2 netball team has won the Scottish Cup 24-18 against St Andrews over in Motherwell. Well done to them, and to the S1 team yesterday who narrowly lost a cup final 10-9 against Perth HS. Both results speak volumes of the efforts of students and the staff involved with the teams this session. Thanks also to parents who have been supporting the teams.

Today we also raised almost £3000 for our adopted charities during the Comic Relief Sportathon, so well done to all the staff and students who contributed to the great atmosphere around school today and helped raise this phenomenal amount of cash. Events started at 6 a.m. on the Astroturf and continued in good spirit all morning. Some of the 80s-themed costumes were very well planned! Staying with good works, we posted on the website earlier this week a summary of the impact of the S6 and staff blood donations that took place recently. This annual event is a really good thing to do, and ensures young people become involved early in this crucial life-saving activity.

Well done also to a number of our musicians, who took part in the Resonate Traditional Concert which was organised by City of Edinburgh and involved students from other schools as well.

Mr Gray and Mr Pye also returned from a very successful S1-3 student ski trip, which was enjoyed by all who attended and acquired new skills.

This week the senior assemblies shared final reminders of effective approaches to exam preparation, supported by partners Live N Learn, who delivered sessions to targeted groups of students in S5-6. Our Easter revision programme is also on offer and planned by Mr Pye.

I also announced today to staff that Ms K Coull ( Faculty Leader, FCT/RME) will take up the post of Acting Depute Head Teacher when Mr Rafferty takes up his headship at Forrester HS after the Easter break. We will be recruiting for the permanent DHT position in the new term. Applications have now closed and the number of applicants is high.

Let’s hope this excellent weather today continues into the weekend!
