I hope you had a good September weekend. On the Sunday a number of staff , students and parents took part in the Kilt Walk in support of a former student, J Lamb. The weather was not kind to us but there was a great atmosphere at the event, and lots of funding was raised.
As I write our annual History Department Trip to the trenches is taking place. I am looking forward to hearing about this when the staff and students return. This week I also appreciated the excellent work going on with S2 in drama, when I was asked to judge some Dragon’s Den style presentations where the students used their creative and expressive skills to present some interesting ideas. The activity also had an emphasis on numeracy and literacy and was a good example of a project designed to meet a range of curricular areas. The most important thing was the enjoyment the students got out of the activity. The high standards evident show how well they are being prepared by the drama staff.
Next week the re-scheduled senior biology trip to the zoo will take place.
This week a successful fund-raising quiz in support of the Indonesia Expedition involving staff and senior students took place and was enjoyed by all. I also met with the S6 Charities Committee today and they are now developing a programme for the session. Our new S6 Ambassadors also attended a student conference earlier this week and are currently working with Ms Tomas to share ideas on school improvement projects.
On the staffing front, as a result of promotions and other changes we are recruiting some new staff. In the past week we said farewell to Mr Haddad in Modern Languages and Mrs Orr in Food Consumer Technology. We wish them well in their new roles. Until we have recruited replacement staff, senior classes will be prioritised for any cover arrangements.
Next week you will receive a letter by email from Mr Webster about arrangements for Week of Wellbeing 19 (WOW 19). This will also be on the school website.
Have a good weekend.
