Term has started back smoothly. It was good to speak to many of you at the S3 into S4 coursing information evening yesterday. All the details will be emailed by Mr Raeburn (DHT) and made available on the website. I look forward to meeting many of you at the various events linked to coursing with other year groups later this term.
This week we have been having S1-3 welcome back assemblies where I have emphasized the great atmosphere in the final weeks of term and highlighted the support for food banks, and the lip sync battle. The atmosphere was really special and I made the point these sort of relaxed events can take place as a result of the high levels of trust and co-operation. These events showed our values in action.
At the end of term I announced that we have been successful in our bid to work with The National Theatre of Scotland this year following a drama department application. Mrs Thompson, CL Performing Arts, has asked me to share the communication below. She also shared a link which celebrates the success story of a former Craigmount student who was in last month inspiring current students in the drama department. His Hollywood success is quite amazing, and a great example of how a person can make a dream career happen. The visit highlighted the many opportunities in the performing arts industry, which can only grow in City of Edinburgh with the recent announcement about the new film studios being built locally.
“I met with the creative team for the National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘Like Flying’ project on Wednesday. The first stage of this exciting project will involve aerial performance taster sessions for all S2 students this term.”
On Thursday Mrs Jack and Mrs Lennon were delighted to take the S3-6 Seasons for Growth group on a trip mark the end of Craigmount’ s first Seasons for Growth course. Seasons for Growth is a change, loss and grief education programme for young people who have suffered loss through bereavement, divorce or separation. This intervention has been a great help to this group of students, their feedback comments including the following:
“it has been really useful and helpful because there are people that you can relate to and truly understand”
“Seasons for Growth was helpful in making me realise what has happened and to think about it”
“It has been a safe space where it feels ok to vent the problems in life that you’ve had and support others”
Our next Seasons for Growth group will start next week. Please contact Mrs Jack for more information.
Have a good weekend.
