Dance is both part of the Physical Education curriculum and also a stand-alone subject. Students complete a block of dance in both S1 and S2 covering a range of dance styles as well as choreography. In S3 and S4, all students have a dance option as part of their Performance PE course.
In S3, students also have the option to elect into Dance as a standalone subject where they will complete 3 periods per week. This course looks at technique, performance and choreography across three dance styles.
In S4, students who have chosen the Dance elective will work towards gaining a National Progression Award (NPA) 4 or a National 5 qualification in Dance. They will be graded on their technique and critical skills across Jazz and Contemporary dance styles.
In S5/6, students will have the opportunity to study dance at Higher level. They will be graded on their technique and critical skills across Jazz and Contemporary dance styles.
Those studying National 5 and Higher dance will be assessed on their solo performance and their choreography.
In addition, the after school sports programme offers the following clubs:
- Jazz/contemporary club
- Street-dance club
- Performance group for experienced dancers.
